I am related to Leonard Caplinger, b. 1770 I assume in Tennessee, and Annie (Anna) Ault, b. 1785 in Maryland, who along with her brother, as children, were captured by Indians in the late 1700s. Where and how I don't know. However, at least she was returned from captivity and proportedly married a Capt. Ault, and later, Leonard Caplinger, from Wilson CO., Tennessee. Leonard's father, b. 1744, married Barbara Reager, b. 1748 in Tennessee.Leonard is listed as having a brother, Samuel.Annie and Leonard Caplinger are believed to have had 13 children, most of whom settled in Southern Illinois. Her daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Caplinger, is my ggg grandmother.Annie (Anna)Ault apparently died in the 1860s in Williams CO., IL. There was some speculation that she might have been full-blooded American Indian. I too have been in contact with Tom King who appears to have a great deal of info regarding the Caplinger family.I look forward to hearing from him.You might also try Wilma Staley at firstname.lastname@example.org.She also has a lot of info on this family and has been a great deal of help to me.I hope this helps. If you have any additional information on this subject (especially the Annie Ault captivity) and/or family please let me know.
