Your inquiry would be more productive if posted on a
Frake or Freke surname message board.See the
following online sites, which discuss the way in which
members of that family adopted the Carberry (later
Carberry) surname:
"His name was John Carberry. Born John Evans-Freke in 1892, he had become the 10th Baron Carbery, inheriting the title during childhood...for some personal reason, he took a dislike to his country of origin...He moved to Kenya, dropping his title and changed his name to John Evans Carberry (inserting an extra 'r' in the family name). He settled in Kenya, creating a coffee plantation called Seremai, near Nyeri..."

Actually, the family back in Co. Cork had already done
so in the 1800s by adopting the name of the barony [land division title] in which their estate was located. Thus
there are records for Carberrys in Bandon and Youghal
for over a hundred years, which are actually those of
the Evans-Freke family.Any mention of a Lord or Lady
Carbery of Ireland refers to this family.
