Cardno Family Bible
I work at Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research in Houston, Texas. In the spring of this year, one of our patrons brought in a beautiful, huge, Bible that is from the Cardno family, originating in Scotland.
The Bible covers 120 years of entries of one line of the Cardno/Chalmers family. The first entry is as follows:
James Cardno born 25 April 1817
&
Elizabeth Chalmers born 19 April 1828
Married 10 June 1856
in Gilcomston Free Church
The last entry is of the marriage of:
James Farquhar Cardno born 25 May 1912
Married 10 Dec 1943 to Vyvyan Mary Harmer, born 24 Feb 1911, the marriage was performed by an RAF Chaplain at All Saints Cathedral in Cairo
This James Farquhar Cardno was on the UK bobsleigh team that won a bronze medal at the 1936 Olympic games in Germany.
We have learned that James Farquhar Cardno died in Leeds, England in 1977. Sadly, we find not a shred of information about the family after 1977. We would like to reunite the Bible with it's family if possible.
If you know of descendants of the above or if you would be interested in the bible yourself, please let us know so that this beautiful relic is not destroyed.
Thank you for your time and interest.
