Hi Belva, I finally unpacked some genealogy, so here goes: I have one page from Lincoln Parish La History by Mary Fletcher which states:Cornelius Cargill, son of John and Rachal Tinsley Cargill, born l746, married Sarah Harris ca l770. He was a Whig in the first yrs of the Rev. War. He turned Tory and was killed in battle in l78l. etc. Another paper, I think from "The Powell Family of Virginia and the South" by Dr E Russ Williams: on pa 60l,Cornelius Cargill, tory and killed by Whigs in the spring of l78l, ( Talks abouthis estate) and at the end the authur said, HE was married to Sarah or Sally, sister of Russell Wilson and then she married Samuel Clary. I assume this statement was by Dr Russ William. In another paper, I don't know where I copied this, but it was a book: re cornelius Cargill , was born in l746 in Lunenburg co, Va and died in l78l in Ninety Six Dist SC. He married Sarah Harris circ of l770. a tale related in "The History of EDgefield, SC:Cunningham, while on his great raid, stopped there in order to put Smith to death, but a Tory begged Cunningham to allow Mr Smith a few moments to pray, which request was granted. The Tory then ran to the house of Russell Wilson, who lived only a short distance from the store, north, and got Mrs. Carghile to help intercede for his life....Mrs Carghile was Wilson's sister, and the widow of Capt Neely Carghile, who had been lately killed by the Whigs. She told Cunningham of Smith's great kindness to the widows and orphans of the murdered Tories, which saved his life.
So it seems there is a disagreement over whether he married a Harris or Wilson. Lajuan Pruett Boyle
