Jane "Janie" Carr,47,was born in Castlerock,Aclare,Tubbercurry.She was the daughter of Thomas Carr and Bridget Goldrick and had three brothers and three sisters. She originally emigrated to to America in 1890 and worked as a domestic and cook in Springfield,Massachusetts. She returned for an extended visit 1n 1909. The return to Ireland was prompted by the sudden death of her widowed sister Catherine,leaving six children without parents. Her sister's husband,Thady Mullarkey,had died young,and Janie had previously helped some of their grown up youngsters to emigrate to America. At Christmas that year Janie attended the wedding of her sister Maria to Sligo man Michael Dooney but the devasting news arrived from America that the Windsor Locks Savings bank had been embezzled by the banks treasurer. She was returning to settle her bank accont when she was lost on the Titanic. Janie Carr boarded the Titanic at Queenstown as a third class passenger[ticket number 368364,£7 15s]. Her body,if recovered,was never identified.
