According to a Civil War pension application, Sarah Ann Garrett was born 20 Jan 1832 in Tennessee. The pension application states she married Prosser Wesley Carr in 1849 but does not give the place of marriage. I suspect the marriage took place in Randolph County, Alabama. Sarah died 13 Oct 1920 in Clay County, Alabama, and was buried in the Millerville Cemetery in the same county. One of her daughters Serena Malissa Carr, who married William Ephram Ray, witnessed the pension application. When the 1850 census was taken, Prosser (listed as P. W. Carr) and Sarah Carr were living in Randolph County, Alabama. There was a Jonathan (b. 1810 in South Carolina) and Elizabeth (b. 1808 in South Carolina) Garrett were residing only three households from Prosser and Sarah. I have been unable to locate any further information or any additional census records for this Jonathan Garrett. I would appreciate any information that might help prove Sarah’s parentage. I will be more than happy to exchange information.
