From a book by John W. Heess, dated 1957. (my family stemmed from the McCarty family which has its roots with the Carrell family since the Silas McCarty married their daughter Sarah.)
I understand that the Carrell family can trace their roots back to Adam (see Posting #568 under McCarty, Silas, David Baily wrote it).I'd like to have this info. if anyone else may have it. ******* Dungan family:Rev Thomas Dungan, born 1634, died 1687.He married Elizabeth Weaver in 1663.He was a descendent of of the Dungan Family of County Kildaire, Ireland. In 1670, he acquired 240 acres of land at Shrewsbury, NJ.Sold it in 1674 and in 1682 moved to Cold Spring, near Bucks County, PA.He founded the first Baptist church in PA.It is the Pennypack Church on the banks of Pennyback Creek, near Bustleton, PA.Thomas and Elizabeth had 5 sons and 4 daughters.Sarah married James Carrell. **** The Carrell Family
James Carrell probably came to this country from north Ireland in 1690-1695.He died in 1719-170.He married Sarah Dungan in 1697. A family tradition tells us that James was a linen weaver from in the north of Ireland. His nationality was Scotch-Irish, however they were truly Scotch who settled in north of Ireland. He was active in the Religioius Wars of that period and was imprisoned in the city of Londoneery during the siege of 105 days where he was subjected to extreme hardships.William of Orange liberted them and their land was returned. In 1707 he purchased 100 acres in Warminster Township, Bucks County, PA.
SARAH AND JAMES HAD six children. My ancestors stem from this marriage.
This booklet says that more info. can be found in "The Descendents of James Carrell and Sarah Dungan", 1690-1928, pages 39-40. I have yet to find this book.
