I'm researching early history of Lake City, Pa, Elk County, Pa where my grandfather with his young family lived and worked about 1891- to about 1900. He and his wife meet as employees at a very rural location known as Rainetown/Raintown where he was the lead carpenter and his future wife was the bread baker at the cook shack. He purchased about 5 acres of land where he built a two-story house where he had a business of some kind in the lower portion. At that time the location of his house was known as Hartman which became Lake City. I found the original deed for the property which lists the Grantor as John Culver a very early settler. I found a connection to a Samuel Orris Culver b. about 1824 oline. His wife's name was given as Margaret nee Vasbinder. I also found during my research surnames in the early Lake City area included Kelso, Wingard, Chamberlin, Moore, Jefferson, Smith, Kennedy, Work, Hetrick and others. During my research I have uncovered info re the mentioned surnames I will share. The Chamberlins and Wingards became residents ofrural areas of Warsaw, Heath, and Polk townships in Jefferson county.
