Milton was a great great great uncle - I descend from hisyounger brother Myron (b. 1842) (both sons of Anson Carrier b. 1812 and Jerusha Dilly Eddy both of Floyd) We have quite a bit on the Eddys before that but Anson so far has been as far as we have been able to go.Anson was likely (though not by any means proven) to have been grandson of a John Carrier by son so far unknown.John Carrier lived in Floyd until about 182? and then his son Elias lived there until the 1830's.Anson and Elias lived next to each other in 1835 and then in 1840 only Anson was left.In 1850 Milton and brother Albert Carrier appear in the census living with other families but there is not trace of Anson (It being 1850 he may have moved to take advantage of work arising from the Gold Rush. This area was after all near the Erie Canal) but for whatever reason we have not been able to locate Anson in 1850.Anson appears again in 1860 and 1870 in Floyd and Jerusha appears in the census (I think it was living with Milton's family) in 1880 indicating that Anson had died.
There was interestingly an independent and well documented family of Carriers - the Seymour Carriers- in Floyd in addition to the Anson Carriers and they apparently settled there in the 1840's.
The only traces of John Carrier and his son Elisha (the 1800 census gives him two more for whom we do not yet have names) are the censuses. We have not yet searched property records or deedbooks that I know of.
For whatever reason Myron Carrier did not talk much about Floyd or his parents or if he did it was not passed down.Myron had been captured in the Civil War and after getting out of POW camp homesteaded, trapped and became a doctor so his later adventures may have overshadowed his Floyd days. His daughter Nellie wrote back in the 1930's that Anson Carrier was of English extraction, that he married Jerusha Dille Eddy and listed his children including Milton though she did not go on to mention who they had married or what childred they had.
I would be very interested to hear of any stories information, or tradition concerning Milton or see any photos (We have some of Myrons and one of Albert's descendants has some photo's of that branch as well).Though there were almost certainly photos made of Anson and Jerusha (in that part of the country by the 1870'S anyway) they would be with the decendants of Milton or younger brother Henry both of whom remained in Floyd if they survived at all.
Please let me know what you can tell me about Milton and family.
