I am searching for any information on Charles C. Carroll who married Martha Hepzibah Wellborn in Early Grove (Marshall County), Mississippi on October 23, 1860.They had a daughter, Tallulah Martha Carroll born 7/9/1862. Family verbal history says Charles C. Carroll abandoned the family. That must have been sometime from Jan. 1862 to Sep. 1862, when Martha died.Tallulah was raised by her Aunt and Uncle in Early Grove, MS. Tallulah was my g-grandmother and claimed that when Charles C. Carroll was asking for her mother's hand in marriage, her grand father requested references. In response, Charles C. Carroll told her grandfather that he was "a degenerate offspring of the illustrious Charles Carroll of Carrollton, signer of the Declaration of Independence."This could mean he was without inheritance, illegitimate, disgraced or just using the coincidence of his famous name.I don't know. Since my g-g-g-grandfather requested references, it can be assumed that Charles C. Carroll was not originally from that area of northern Mississippi. I would appreciate any information, and am willing to share what I have. Thanks.
