For many years I have researched the First US Artillery and the men that served in that unit during the Civil War.One soldier, Thomas Carroll, was born in Seurry Ireland in 1831 and enlisted in the First US Artillery in September 1857.He served at Fort Sumter, under Major Robert Anderson, at the beginning of the Civil War in April 1861. In September 1865 he was discharged from the military.
His wifes name was Mary and they had at least three children: Peter (born in 1856), Eliza (born in 1857), and Thomas Jr. (born in September 1859).
His wife filed for a widow's pension in February 1897 and listed her residence as the State of Florida.
