I am descended through Rachel Carroll, the daughter of Samuel and Jane. Rachel married William C Nix on Feb 28 1858. William C Nix died 7 months later. Rachel is found in the 1860 Census at the home of her mother Jane Carroll in White Co, GA, along with her 1 year old infant son, William Carr Nix which was her only child through this marriage. A few years later, Rachel married Alfred Adams, and had 12 children through this marriage. She died sometime after 1920, since I have located her in the 1920 census.
PS I have also recently discovered that Samuel Carroll (husband of Jane and father of Rachel) did not die between 1850 and 1860 as I had previously supposed. He shows back up again in the 1870 census living with his wife Jane. I can only suppose that he was missing or had moved off somewhere else for a time, since he is not located with the family in the 1860 census.
Any help or clues on where to find proof of Jane Carroll's maiden name of Clemons would be greatly appreciated. Also, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any other corrections. Thanks, T Nix
