Just came accross your posting. I have been working (off & on)on my family tree for the past 5 years and like you I can't get past my Great Grandfather Henry. I have my tree on Family Treemaker and would be pleased to forward it to you. I have done most of my searching in North Jersey since my parents and grandparents had always lived in the Newark area. I had been told many times, but have no records to verify, that my great grandfather Henry was from the Port Jervis area of New York. I do know, copy of death certificate, that his son William was born in Newtown NJ although he died in Newark.
Up until 2 years ago I had been in regular touch with Peggy Checkur whose maiden name was Lott and she lives on Lott Rd. in Sussex NJ. Peggy has a Lott/Phillips tree that has the Lott's going all the way back to the early 1700's. She and I are both certain that we're related but I haven't been able to close the loop. The earliest record I have is a marriage certicate for my grandfather Eugene who I never met. I was born in 1929 and he died in Newark in 1910. The certificate lists his father as Henry born in the US and his mother Johanna Carroll born in Prince Edward's Island, Nova Scotia.
