Regarding the "African American" Chardie, real name was Charity. The mix-up in her name is still unknown, but must be due to the Clerk's penmanship. Charity had four sons named: Lewis (oldest), Allen, George, Bob and Wesley(Dr. Carroll, who studied w/George Washington Carver). She adopted a child, whom she named "Little Allen" after her son Allen(Big Allen). I am the daughter of Inez, who was the daughter of Willie Annie, who was the daughter of Lewis Carroll. Charity in her later years lived with Lewis and his wife Eliza. I too would like information on the Carroll family of Texas. When my gmother was a young lady living in Corsicana, she told how she met one of her "white" relatives at the Bank. She was completing a loan application and after looking over her references and asking her questions, he told her she was related to him. I have other information, but would love to hear from others with history of this family.
