Hello list, I am trying to track down a Levi Carroll who was b. 22 Jan. 1832 in [I think] Bradley Co., Tn.
"Pvt Levi Carroll fought in Co I43rd TN Infantry CSA .... out of Bradley County Tn. enlisted at Charleston TN on March 13 1861 until July 30 1863 when Levi was last listed on the roll as in the hospital sick at Lauderdale Springs MS .. He fought at the Battle of Vicksburg under Capt William H. McKameywith 47 men in his unit ..of those 47 men 27 were either killed or wounded.Levi's brothers Thomas Carroll and James A. Carroll also served and joined in Charleston TN."
He later moved to Greenbrier, Robertson Co., Tn. At some point he married Melissa Yoder, b. June 8, 1842.They had a daughter Amanda Elizabeth b. May 15, 1860 [I think also in Bradley Co., Tn.] who m. John Thomas Smith in Robertson Co., Tn. in 1877.
On this forum I saw several notations about Cherokee Indians in the area of Bradley Co.Tn. who had the surname Carroll.John Thomas Smith, I believe, according to family legend, married a Cherokee Indian. We have had no luck whatsoever finding any information on these Carrolls.Does anyone out there have any clues how to see if these folks are Cherokee, and if so, where they came from and who their parents are?Any help would be greatly appreciated.
