James: In reply to your questions...Phillip Carroll was b. abt 1805 in NC. I have no information on his siblings or parents. I would submit that is is very possible that your Rebecca was a sister. If she was b. abt 1818 it is possible. Clementine was a daughter of Phillip & b. much later on. Clementine was 1/2 choctaw Indian. We know this as she related this info to her family. It was sort of discarded by some relatives because they could not determine the connection to the indian bloodline. My family has always passed this down and my G GM Rose (Roxie) Carithers openly stated that she was 1/4 choctaw.
Phillip Carroll married Priscilla Slaughter b. 1824, Richmond, NC. They married 1842 in Winston, MS. Then they settled in Carroll Co., MS around Winona. He was a farmer. Either he or Priscilla had Choctaw Indian blood but we have not determined which one. I have a photo of Priscilla and it is iffy as to her blood lines. Phillip has been referred to as General Carroll but no record of any military service so go figure???
Now, Priscilla was a daughter of Daniel McDonald Slaughter of Blackjack Twp, Richmond Co., NC and her mother was Sarah Elizabeth Thomas of Richmond. Priscilla had a sister named Rebecca b. 1817. They moved from NC to Goshen, Washington Co., AR, or at least that is where they died; he in 1884 & she in 1885.
