KERNERSVILLE - Douglas Carroll, 57, of 1078 Laverne Lane, died Jan. 2, 2005, at Wake Forest University Medical Center. He was born July 17, 1947, in Sampson County, a son of Kermit Carroll and Naomi Crumpler Carroll. He was a graduate from Appalachian State University and received a master's degree from the University of North Carolina and a master's degree from Harvard. He also received a doctorate from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He was a retired planning director of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Planning Board. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Aldersgate-Miller Sunday School Class and was very active in church work all of his life. His father and mother and special aunt, Doris Carroll Spell, all preceded him in death. In 1981, he married Cynatha Prosser, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two stepchildren, Michael A. Rabon and wife Martha of Minneapolis, Minn., and Amy Rabon Sebastian and husband Kenneth of Boomer; stepmother, Mrs. Mary Emma Carroll of Godwin; sisters, Sandra Carroll Naylor and husband Ricky of Dunn, Brenda Wrench and husband Leslie of Godwin, Judy Short and husband Roy of Fayetteville, and Lola-Ann Bolger and husband John of Virginia; a brother, Mackie Bullard and wife Gale of Wade; and five grandchildren, Michael Rabon Jr., Elizabeth Carroll Rabon, Sara Katherine Rabon, and Jacob Henry Rabon of Minneapolis, Minn., and William Kenneth Sebastian of Boomer.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in High Point by the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Wilson II. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue in High Point.
Pallbearers will be Michael Rabon Jr., Rodney Kesler, Don Elliott, Leslie Wrench, Chris Wrench and Tim Gauss.
