Here in Duplin Co. North Carolina we had two Thomas Carrolls in the time frame you discuss. Thomas Carroll, the father, either died or disappeared by 17 Oct 1785, as there is a court case on that date where Thomas Carroll (Jr.) petitioned for a share in his deceased father's land. I have been unable to find records on Thomas the son after this 1785 date. The case might have gone against Thomas Carroll, possibly giving him reason to leave. I can not find a grave for either Thomas here.
If there is a link, and if you can give me the surnames of your female lines in the US, I will happily do local research for you. If we do link, you might be sitting on a different, more interesting picture.
My interest in turn is that my father, aunt, grandfather, and great grandfather claimed Maryland descent from Charles Carroll the Signer.I flat do not see it, and a Thomas Carroll is one of my targeted missing links to explain what really happened. I prefer truth to myth.
