the Carroll/O'Carroll name is derived from the Old Gaelic word "Caerbhail". The word literally means "hacking". It could have been applied to a butcher, but oral tradition states that it was a term given to great warriors.
The Carrolls themselves lived in Dublin, Tipperary, Cork, Kilkenny & Limerick counties. These are mostly located in southwest/south central Ireland.
Neither the scots nor the Irish have "colors" perse, but they do have tartans. The Irish clan tartans are very similar in nature to the Scottish ones.
