Mary (Smith) Van Swearingen (1660-1713), w/o Garrett Van Swearingen, wrote her will 17 Feb 1712/3 stating a bequest to her daughter, Eleanor Carroll.
Eleanor (Van Swearingen) Carroll Manning (1680-1727), in the "Family Register of Gerret van Sweringen and Descendants," by H.H. Swearingen (2nd. ed., Washington, 1894) p.4. and the "Magazine of the Jefferson County Historical Society," Vol. XVI, Dec. 1950 (Charlestown, WV), "The Early Van Swearingens," p.10. was said to have married first James King Carroll, whose grandson Thomas King Carroll became the governor of Maryland, and second, John Manning.
Eleanor's daughter, Mary, married Steven Higgins.
James Carroll made a bequest to his "cousin" Mary Higgins in his 12 Feb 1728 will. I'm assuming the above Mary (Carroll) Higgins is this person.
Does anyone know if I am correct in my assumption and/or have further information on the husband of Eleanor Van Swearingen and the identity of James Carroll's cousin Mary Higgins?
