ZADIE C. WOODS Athens Zadie C. Woods, age 90 of Athens went to be with the Lord Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 2006 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born June 16, 1915 in Clay County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Norman & Maude Carpenter Carwile.
Mrs. Woods was a dedicated nurse at Sheltering Arms Hospital and O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. She attended The Plains High School, was a member of the Salem Community Church and a former member of Euphemia Chapter 200 Order of Eastern Star, Amesville. She loved animals, both large and small. Her ancestry was part Cherokee Indian and was very proud of her American Indian heritage.
She is survived by two daughters, Wilma Jean (Eph) Cochran of The Plains and Cherry Sue “Sudy” (Charles) Turner of Albany; nine grandchildren- Roger “Butch” (Beverly) Cochran of The Plains, Steven (Paula) Cochran of Albany, Larry (Debbie) Cochran of The Plains, Jeanie (Dave) Weeks of Guysville, Melissa “Katie” (Mitch) Daugherty of The Plains, Kathy (Jeff) Hunter of New Marshfield, Debbie (Joe) Elliott of Millfield, Dave Johnson of Albany and John Johnson of Chicago, Ill.; seventeen great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren; a sister, Ginnie (Rubin) Loveless of Lineville, Alabama; a brother, Thurman Carwile of Washington Court House and a special pet companion, Topsy.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Oval “Dumpie” Woods in 1976; and infant son; two sisters, Lillian Blackerby and Ruby Vickers; a brother and sister in law, Dewey N.H. & Narvelle Carwile. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday 11:00AM at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home by Rev. Denver Dodrill with burial in The Plains (Hocking) Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 5-8PM at the funeral home.
