"DIED IN THE MOUNTAINS
Skeleton of a Former Iowan Found on Mount Breckenridge
h.J. udd, of this city, has received from John Zugg, of Bakersfield, California the following letter:
I have learned all about the man who met his death in the mountains.HIs name was Frank Casner. Before coming here he was in the mines in Nevada or Idaho; the parties did not know which. He was there but a short time and came here inJuly, 1897 working in and around Bakersfield until about the middle of December, 1897 when he and the part from whom I received this informatin went to Breckenridge. He took his shot gun and went to kill some squirrels, and never returned.Search was made, but in vain.In September, 1897, a hunting party ran across the skeleton of a man, the gun and cartridge belt identifying him as Casner. The coroner held an inquest and the remains were buried in Mt. Breckenridge, near the sawmill. If you will publish and circulate this I will be much obliged.
Mr. Budd informs us that the dead man had been quiter reticent in regard to his past history; but had given the impression that he was originall from Iowa.
Local newspapers over the state are requested to make publication fo the name, date of death, etc., as the deceased probably has relatives in the state."
