I have Domenica CASSATA, age 14, arriving Ellis Island on 17 July 1903 with mother Agata CASSO, 41 dressmaker,to join father Michele CASSATA at 247 Elizabeth St, NY. Also with them siblings Francesca 16, Marianna 12, Filipo 11, Anna 9. On same voyage Marianna CASSATA, 39, joining husband Vito LO BARBERA at 149 Elizabeth St, NY. All listed as from "Cuminia", probably should be "CIMINNA."
Believe this is same Domenica CASSATA who married in 1909, age 19, to our relative, Michele MAGGIORE, age 26,from Bagheria Sicily. In 1910 census they are listed as running small grocery in Chicago, living at 502 Oak Street in "Little Sicily." He is then 26, she 22, 6 months married. Says both immigrated in 1903. He is son of Antonino MAGGIORE & Rosaria MONTE. She is daughter of Michael CASSATA and Agatha CORSO. Wedding at St Philip Benizi Church. Michael died 30 Jan 1912 in Chicago and is buried at Mt Carmel Cemetery.Have found no records of any children born to this marriage and no burial for Domenica.
Also found another posting for a CASSATA family in Chicago who may or not be related: Phillipo CASSATA immigrated to Chicago from Ciminna and had 3 sons, Michael, Joseph and Paul.
