DEATH OF COMMODORE CASSIN - The venerable Commodore STEPHEN CASSIN, died at his residence in Georgetown, D.C. on Saturday, in the 76th year of his age. He entered the navy 57 years ago, when a boy and served under Perry at the naval battle on Lake Erie, where he distinguished himself and was promoted. He was a terror to the pirates who infested the Atlantic Ocean and on the 28th and 29th Sept., 1822, he captured 5 pirate vessels. He also commanded the Tieonderoga, under Commodore McDonough on Lake Champlain in 1814. In consequence of ill health, he had seen but 11 years sea service and was on the reserve list at the time of his death.

The funeral of MR. CASSIN was attended today by the Secretary of War, several officers of the Army and Navy, the military staff of the District, and soldiers of the war of 1812. From 800 to 1,000 persons were present. The body was deposited in the family burying ground at the Arlington estate. The Washington Light Infantry attended with their band : By request of the family , no salute was fired.
