ARDMORE — Services for Alfred W. Cathey, 69, Ardmore, formerly of Allen, are 2 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Ada, the Rev. Joe Howry officiating. Burial follows at Allen Cemetery.
Mr. Cathey died Nov. 14, 2006, at an Ardmore hospital. He was born Feb. 16, 1937, at McCalls Chapel community, near Allen, to J. K. “Shorty” and Nannie Mae Kile Cathey. He attended school at Round Prairie and finished his education at Allen Public Schools.
He married Virginia Carter June 13, 1965, at Ada. Mr. Cathey was a butcher for Safeway Grocery Stores beginning May 17, 1964, at Ada, moving to Ardmore in 1970 to become market manager at Safeway, and retiring in August 1991. Mr. Cathey served in the Oklahoma National Guard for six years and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dannar Steele Awalt, in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Cathey, of the home; two daughters, Mary Beth Awalt and husband Richard, Madill, and Lauri Morrow and husband Chris, Pilot Point, Texas; nine granchildren, Bryndan Chase Awalt, Kyleigh Jordann Awalt, Padann Drue Awalt, Meridann Blakely Awalt, Ellary Kaidance Awalt, John Taylor Morrow, Christopher Cody Morrow, Maralee Spenser Edmonds and Hannah Elizabeth Morrow; two great-grandchildren, Lauryn Isabella Awalt and Gabryel Steele Awalt; a sister, Margaret Ruth Sanford, Holdenville; a nephew; and four nieces.
Bearers are Danny Awalt, Bryndan Chase Awalt, Chris Morrow, Gary Wayne Sanford, Charles Cannon and Lynn Seebeck.
Honorary bearers are Dale Long, S. L. Wallace and Bud Yount.
