I have not had any success in trying to find the names of Winifred Tracy's parents. She was born July ??, 1879 in Center Township, Rock Co., WI according to the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society (WSGS) publications. You would think the 1880 Federal Census Schedule for Rock Co., WI would show something but I haven't been able to find it.The microfilm copy that I browsed is difficult to read in places as the images are quite dark and a little blurred.Maybe someone else has access to a better copy.
The death certificate for Charles Irvin Cator shows his father to be Hiram Cator and his mother is shown as "Unknown."The informant was his son, Charles Cator, Jr.
The Federal Census Schedule for 1860 (WI-Rock Co.) shows a "Betsey D. Pendell" living in the household of Hiram W. Cator and Melvina. The relationship is shown as "Mother-in-law."That would indicate to me Hiram W. Cator, Sr. did in fact marry a second time.I tend to think that Hiram did divorce Lucy Kimball (or she divorced him); but I haven't found any proof of this. There is a 5-6 year gap in the births between Hiram, Jr. and George M. Cator. Also, the Census schedules show the Kimball's were from New York. The schedules show Melvina Pendell to be from Vermont, as is her mother, Betsey.
I double checked the WSGS special edition and the wedding announcements from "The Janesville Gazette" show a marriage date of "15 June 1854" for Hiram and Melvina.Vital records should tell us what the real date is; but I just have never bothered to pursue this.
