You're on the right trail I think, however don't leap to hasty conclusion.Remember when our g'pas lost a wife, they just married a much younger one and the generations can really overlap.I think your ancestor would be more apt to be a nephew of Rebecca Jane and Tilberry Reid (who were married in 1830.)
Doris Caudy is the gal that keeps track of peripheral relations but I don't think she's doing as much now as she used to.See her msge 85 on this forum and maybe you can get information from the person she replied to.And I will contribute the fact that Tilbury Reid who married my Rebecca Jane Caudy was a Senator and storekeeper in Pike Co. OH - as I recall my Ggma, their daughter Minerva Jane. was born in Pike Co. in 1835.They moved on to Morgan County, Indiana (now Hendricks Co.)I don't have Rebecca Jane's sibs.
My goal is to get back to the settler and I hope he is James Caudy, Indian Fighter who was located in Hampshire Co, VA - now WV in the 1730's (and I base the 1730's on a guess from the land records).George Washington. while surveying for Lord Fairfax, slept at "Coddy's Fort".I believe this is from his diary and GW wasn't a very good speller. The trouble is there are too many James.
On the Caudy forum there are three schools of thought. There's mine which is pretty much."What's your source - Can anybody document their data?" and the theories of Doris and Ray Montgomery. If you go to one of my messages and click on my name and read the msgs from the bottom you'll get the theories in sequence.
I had high hapes for the Caudy GenForum but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interest - maybe because there are not too many Caudys.
