Captain Cavanaugh
Hon. Robert Macauley, attorney, Menomonie (WI), was born February 18, 1838,
in Glasgow, Scotland. His parents, Robert and Margaret (Cavanaugh) Macauley,
immigrated to the United States in 1843, and settled in Hancock county, Ill.,
where the father, who was born in 1808, died in 1847, aged 39 years. The
mother died in Dunnville (WI) aged sixty years. The grandfather on the mother's
side was Captain Cavanaugh, who distinguished himself in France, while
fighting under the illustrious Wellington.
The above is from:
Historical and Biographical Album of the Chippewa Valley, Wisconsin
Chicago, A. Warner, 1891-92, p. 476.
The parents were born in Belfast, moved to Glasgow, and then to the US.
I'm looking for information on the grandfather, Captain Cavanaugh. He would
have died in Ireland before 1848. The grandmother, Harriet, possibly
Harriet Wright, arrived in the US in 1847. Two of their daughters were
Margaret and Mary Jane; one son was John, another may have been Thomas;
all died in Illinois or Wisconsin.
