This extract from the newspaper is very interesting. However, it started me thinking again about the 'Coeur de roi' theory. I have heard this explanation before, but when it mentions the spellings Querderay and Quir-de-Ray I wondered if the name could come from an occupation, ie Querir(to seek out) Raye (furrow). Could this be a name given to some-one carrying out a survey for example, possibly at the time of domesday ? I would love to know if the Coeur de Roi explanation is proven or if it is still theory.Does anybody know ?
