Hi, I have alot of info on the Chalcrafts of Godalming, Surrey which is very close to Chiddingfold at around that time, (i also have some chiddingfold names) most of it is in my family house in Godalming. James is certainly a family name, William and Richard are others. There was an infamous William Chalcraft who was publically hung in Godalming as an accomplice to a grisley double murder of his boss and bosses housekeeper, there are copies of the newspaper and trial and hanging available, I believe it was in 1812 , i'm not sure (i last looked a few years ago) but I have the dates and details at home. It was believed that he aided his bosses son who masterminded the murder. There were 8 children I believe, sorry I can't remember all of it off the top of my head, its very likely that the family spread around the world after the shame of that event. If you want the specific info and dates I would be very happy to send you them, just drop me an email, the rest of the Chalcrafts still live in Godalming, it is certainly an old local family. The largest local town is Guildford, the trial took place there. Nicky
