Thanks to this site.Did I say where Richard's wife
Bethenia Crittenden Chandler was buried? She was Wiley's
mother and my Sarah Chandler Griffin Hunt's.She was not
buried in Piney in Cherokee, she died while at Sarah's
on Hwy 95 out of Garrison, Texas, the Cold Springs Baptist
Church Cemetery. Most ofmy Weatherly family are there.
Sarah's 2nd. husband, John Hunt donated part of the land for the church and cemetery.Sarah was Wiley's sister,
her first husband Benjamin Griffin came from Bibb Co., AL
in the 1850's and the wagons were seperated and Ben and
two children died with Colera.Sarah's wagon made it to
Cherokee with three of their children, Martha Jane, Sophia
Ann and Crittenden.I have never found where the three
died or if there were any other two children. My Weatherly
book says there were two more, if so they were close in age.
I found the plantation the Griffin's owned in Bibb Co., the
Chandlers lived in the next co., Perry, I think. I have it
somewhere.Sarah lived with Wiley or another bro. in
Cherokee Co., TX with the three children until she married
John Hunt and moved to Garrison.Martha was my g-grandmother.She married a Weatherly from the same FM 95.
I would like the children of Wiley's descendants if you
don't mind, I would appreciate it.
I feel uncomfortable about the graves Bethenia, Sarah and
John Hunt were buried in being so near to FM 95 when they
widened it.They cut off the hill before the graves and
when I was there last, I couldn't find the stones. They
were old but readable, being tall and slender.I forgot
to inquire if they moved them or not.I hope not.

forget to re-check the forums.
Oh, about where Wiley was buried in LA, there was a
Battle of Mansfield in Mansfield, LA just across the TX
side. When they were killed by the northern army, the
fastest way to get them buried was to dig a large hole
and bury all the bodies together. He could have been in
that bunch. When I visited Mansfield battleground in
1979, there were white gravestones like any other Civil
War graves that I have seen, his name may be on one.I
think there were more killed in New Orleans.I feel that
it was Mansfield. When the north came up the Red River
near the battlegrounds, it was in the spring if I can
remember, and the river water is always low at this time.
Their ship was grounded when headed to Shreveport, and
that was when the south won that fight.A lot were killed
from Texas though.
My g-g-uncle James Madison Weatherly lived at Maul out of
Nacogdoches going to Mt. Enterprize and was captured some
where probably in Vicksburg and taken to Indiana to one of
the prisons, one of the worse in the north.I lost two
relatives in that one, some froze or was starved to death. My grandfather was a namesake of him.
I sure want to go to the Cherokee graves. The Chandlers
came to Texas early, I think some during the Texas Rev.
and the Crittendons also are how most got here.Sam Houston cameto Merrion, AL and made a speach to recruit men to fight. That is where he met his wife.Idid a research on the Houston family to see how it fit in my daughter-in-law's McNutts, that were in the TX Rev. also. Then I found where the Houston and McNutts bought land in the east,it was Virginia, from my late husband's Beverley family that were here in the 1600's.It is getting too deep, the further you dig, more than you need is there.
Well, it is always nice to find family.I just wish I could find Bethenia Crittendens family.I am stuck on that one like I am Richard.Too many Richards and no connectins. I found where some of the census had mis-
spelled the Chandlers, and also the Weatherly's.
Thanks for answering.
Sincerely, Beverly Conner
