I don't have any evidence to prove it but I think so. John had married into the Colonial aristocracy of the day. He owned two plantations in SC. After the revolution he sold them and returned to England because of his stronger ties to England. He is buried in the crypt at St Paul's cathedral in London. I don't think those honours were bestowed on many so I presume he must have been a member of that "class".
