Hello Pat, I am a direct descendant of the Charleville's from Ste. Genevieve area and I just saw your post from 2004 abt. Francois Chauvin/Charleville and Marie-Marthe Simoneau and the question about Joseph Chauvin/Charleville's "seemingly" two different wives. I'm wondering since so much time has passed, have you solved the mystery?
I think the answer to the Joseph m. Rivard(t) and Joseph m. Bon Acceuil can be put to rest by visiting randolphcountyillinois.net....Kaskaskia marriages, Bride N-Z.
There are 3 entries for Genevieve Rivard, the third one spelled with a 't' at the end.The first two entries are a recorded marriage to one man--Francois de Monbrun de Bonaceuil and the second to Francois de Bonaceuil de Monbrun on Dec. 28, 1740. Three months later she re-marries (was she widowed?) under her legal name "Bonaceuil" to Joseph Chauvin/Charleville, my 5th gr-gf. I owe a big, thank-you to that site, because if not for them, I wouldbe ready to pull my hair out!
As for the parents of Francois Chauvin/Charlevillewho m. Marie-Marthe Simoneau, I am still at a loss--can you (or anyone who sees this post) help? I also ran across an entry showing Francois Chauvin, son of Philippe, son of Gilles& Angelique Guyon, married to a Marie or Marthe Scionneau(x)....Could they mean Simoneau?
