Joseph Charpentier from Montreal in 1817
I'm looking for more on a voyeager named Joseph Charpentier who worked for the American Fur Company based in Michelmacinac from at least 1817, originally coming from Montreal. He seems to have ended up working at a post along the Demoine River near present day Keokuk and had at least one Sauk/Fox half-breed child, baptised in St. Louis MO, who gained rights on the half breed land tract there. He also had 2 children with Marie Louise Racine who were baptised down in St. Charles MO in 1830 and he may have died there soon after.
Does this sound like anyone you can place? Looking for his origins & anything else on this family.
