Looking for relatives of following people who lived in/near to Campbell Co., TN or Wythe Co., VA or Bledsoe Co., TN around May 27, 1827:
John McCrackin, James Chandoin, Benjamin Wheeler, Mary Fortner, Elisha Thomas. They along with John Bridgman and his brother William Bridgman were heirs of their sister, Martha Elizabeth Bridgman David, widow of Sampson David.
These people seem to have lived in Wythe Co., Va and moved to Campbell Co., TN about 1814 and some of them to Pikeville, Bledsoe Co., TN about 1817.
John Bridgman was born in Richmond, Virginia, and about his fifth year his parents moved to Wythe Co, where he grew up to manhood. In the twenty-first year of his age he came to Campbell County in this State, where he afterwards married, and resided until after the close of the late Creek War--in which he was a soldier--having borne a noble part in the memorable action at the Horse-Shoe. He removed to Bledsoe county, and finally settled at Pikeville in 1817, where he has ever since resided.
If our DOB is correct, he was in Wythe Co in 1794 and in Campbell Co. by 1810. This corresponds with time William, his brother, was in Campbell Co.According to other records above, he named Pikeville for his mother's birthplace in NC. which is located in Wayne Co, NC now but at time of his mother's birth could have been Johnston or Dobbs Co. NC.I also know that a Mary Bridgman born VA age 70, probably the widow of Thomas Bridgman, was living in NC after her husband died about 1819. In 1850 Census of Alexander Co, NC, she was enumerated with Jeremiah David (later research and finding of family) shows should be DAVIS) 56, His wife Nancy 45 both born VA and their children George 18, Jeremiah 16 and Robert 14 born NC.In 1860 census of Hardin Co., Cave-in-The-Rock, IL she is listed, Mary Bridgeman, age 93 VA with a John Simmons 61 NC and his wife Elizabeth 49 NC and their children, William S., Almon L., Robert M., Jeremiah A., Mariam E., Sara J.Their neighbors include Jeremiah Davis 66 VA and Nancy 64 NC and Elizabeth 14. I suspect these are all the same people. Her application for pension says she is 90 years old in 1860. All this leads me to believe that Mary was born between 1767 and 1780. To be his mother she would have been born before 1774 which is in the middle so I suspect that the parents of John are Thomas Bridgman and Mary ?. I have verified with descendants of Jeremiah and Nancy Bridgman DAvis and John and Elizabeth Bridgman Simmons that they are children of Mary. They indicated however that their father was Robert Bridgman.Any help is appreciated.
