Linda McMullen Cheek, 67, of Jonesborough, Washington Co
TN, went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2009, at Indian
Path Medical Center.
She was born in Gate City, VA, on April 1, 1942, and lived
most of her life in Kingsport, TN, and Church Hill, TN.
She retired in 2002 from Quebecor World Printing (Kingsport
Press) after 42 years of service.
Linda loved country music, and her favorite vacation was
going to Nashville every June to mingle with the stars at
CMA Fest (formerly know as Fan Fair). She made many special
and lasting friends at the event. She loved her family and
friends and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed
working on her genealogy and compiled several volumes of
her family history. She established the 'Ketron Cemetery
Association' for the purpose of restoring and maintaining
the old Ketron Cemetery located in Wadlow Gap on the Couch
farm in which her great-great-grandfather is buried. She
and several friends and family members worked tirelessly
to accomplish that goal.
She goes to join loved ones who have gone on before,
parents, Hoy Raymond McMullen and Sarah Minnich McMullen;
brothers, Carl and James McMullen; and a special aunt,
Charmie McMullen Lankford.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Carl David
Cheek; and daughter, Carla Renee Cheek; one sister,
Virginia M. A. Travis; and several nieces, nephews, and
cousins, all of whom were very special to her.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful doctors,
nurses, and other members of the medical community who
worked so hard to make the last years of Linda's life as
pleasant as possible. Special thanks is extended to Dr.
Ronald Hunter and staff, Dr. Stan Hodges, and many special
people at Indian Path Medical Center and Vanderbilt
University Medical Center who went above and beyond the
call of duty to show the family love and compassion
throughout this difficult time in their lives.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 27, 2009, at
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral
home chapel with the Reverend Wrightly Salling officiating.
Pallbearers will be Travis Anderson, Lewis McMullins,
Ronald Vaughn, Larry Bailey, Paul Brady, and Marty Proffitt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Anderson, Carl Bacon,
Eddie Hunt, Harvey Conkin, Travis Merrell, and Jack McDavid.
Graveside services will follow the funeral at Holston View
Cemetery in Weber City, VA.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions be made to the 'Ketron Cemetery Association,
127 Mystic Lane, Jonesborough, TN 37659.
