Henry Chidley, born in Shebbear, Devon, England in 1812, died, presumably in Toronto sometime after 1891, married Mary Deacon, the 6 April 1837 in Devon, England (born in 1816 in Devon, England, daughter of Edward Deacon and Jane (Deacon)).
Notes :Henry married Mary Deacon, April 6, 1837 in the Parish ofCharles, Borough of Plymouth, County of Devon. They subsequently lived in the village of Shebbear, Devon, where Henry was a tailor.Their first child, Jane, was born in England in 1838 as was their second child John, born in 1840. Their third child, Emily, was born in Canada c1846. The rest of their eight children were also born in Canada. The family emigrated to Canada sometime between 1840 and 1846, probably 1840 or 1841, since the 1841 census for Shebbear does not show them. The Toronto General Directory for 1856 shows "Chidley Henry, clothier and dry goods merchant, King Street, n.s. - residenceYonge Street e.s."(see pages 90, 119, and 270)
It appears from records in Devon, although can't be proven, that Henry had a sister Mary, born c1802, a brother Thomas, born c1805 and another brother John, born c1808.
Henry’s parents then, were John Chidley and Grace Bolt who were married Dec. 22, 1799 in Shebbear, Devon
