George W. Childers, 93, of 1520 Highpoint Avenue,
Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN, went to be with the Lord on
Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Wellmont Holston Valley
Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Kingsport, TN, he had resided in Kingsport all of
his life. George was a veteran of World War II serving in
the U.S. Marine Corp. and had retired from Eastman
Chemical Company. He was a member of Apostolic Lighthouse
Church and enjoyed gardening and fishing.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo
Childers; three daughters, Carolyn Taylor, Elizabeth Lane,
and Elaine Childers; parents, Bill and Carrie Childers;
and two brothers, Frankie Childers and Raymond Childers.
Survivors include his son, Sam Childers and former wife
Terry, of Kingsport, TN; seven grandchildren, Tina Lane,
Wayne Childers, Sam Childers, Jr., Tracy Lane, Chad Lane,
Elaine Crawford, and Michael Taylor; fifteen great-grand-
children; several great-great grandchildren; nieces and
nephews; special friends, Jim and Freda Castle, and a host
of friends at Fanslers Campground.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., on
Friday, December 3, 2010, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes,
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday,
December 4, 2010, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, with
Pastor David Peters officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, is serving the
