That's very interesting about the connection to Nicholas Childers.Nicholas was in Hancock Co., Ga. in the 1820 census, Bibb Co., Ga. in the 1830 census, and Muscogee Co., Ga. by 1832 when he participated in the Ga. Gold Land Lottery. He also left records in Baldwin Co., Ga. and Upson Co., Ga.I assume this was the same Nicholas.
There was also a John B. Childers in early Hancock Co., Ga. in the 1830 and 1840 census records.By 1850 he was in Tallapoosa Co., Al.He was also there in the 1860 census on p. 4.On p. 2 was a Joseph B. Childers.Joseph married Harriet Jane Piper on 3 Aug. 1854 in Troup Co., Ga.This Joseph was in the Alabama 45th Regt., Co. B along with your James Lockett Childers. I'm thinking Joseph B. was the son of John B., and that Joseph and Lockett were cousins.
There is a book "Darien Baptist Church Records 1794-1862" (Hancock Co., Ga.) that mentions these Childers:
p. 23 Aprail (sic) the 4th day 1807.Agreeable to the request of the church Sister Elizabeth Childrey came forward and give the satisfaction and was continued in fellowship.
p. 26 Washington Co., Ga. Elisabeth Childrey of Church of Christ at Darian (sic) - Church is dissolved & she is able to enter into fellowship to any other church of the same faith and order.20 Feb. 1807.Edward Hood, clerk.
p. 107 Tuesday, 7 Sept. 1841.Received by experience Robert Childres.
p. 111 Elizabeth Childry - dismissed, no date.
p. 118 Darien Church Minutes Roll 1841-1863.Jane Childers dismissed.
p. 125 June 1, 1844.Robert Childres and Jane Childres have letters of dismission.
Could this Robert and Jane be the parents of Lockett and Elizabeth?
By the way I believe that my Jacob Moore and Elizabeth Childers had a daughter Frances Moore b. 1838 who married John Koon in Meriwether Co., Ga. on 28 July 1859.John was born in 1835 in S. C. to George Koon and Nancy Abney.
