Hello, Jen!I hope you're still out there. If you're still interested in John Crist and fighting a brick wall, maybe we can help each other. In tracing my Caldwell line, have found a gggrandfather who married an Amanda Crist in Brown Co. Ohio. Her father was John Crist and the family was located in 1850 Ohio, Brown County, Lewis Twp,house 224.If you look at the record, I believe the Sarah listed was not a daughter, but a 2nd wife.On Latter Day Saint's website, FamilySearch.org was a marriage listing for John Crist to Sarah Nichols 22 Dec 1846 in Brown County, OH.I have not seen the actual marriage record yet, but if true, Sarah can only be the mother of John's youngest daughter, Margaret. I have often wondered who my John Crist's 1st wife might have been and the mother of my ancestress, Amanda.
Intriguing possiblitities/coincidences: Bracken KY is right across the Ohio River from Lewis Twp in Brown Co. OH. Could little Margaret Crist have been born the latter part of 1846, the mother perhaps died as result of childbirth? With a baby to take care of and other young children left to his care, could John Crist have remarried almost immediately? Could little Margaret be named for her dead mother? And, in checking the 1850 census further, there are several Overturf families who live not far from the Crists in Lewis Township.
If this sounds interesting, Jen, I hope you will contact me further. Wishing you good searching-- Sharon
