Ancestry.com has a military free info program today till July 4. I am looking for my Christ ancesters that served in the military in the USA. My great grandfather is John Christ and his father is John Christ and his mother is Mary Christ. They are German born and it seems that he could have been a Civil War veteran.
I found my grandfather's WW1 and WW2 Draft Registration papers and those of his brother. It gave me information like his address, which confirms what my dad and aunt and uncle have said. I found out the name of my grand uncle's wife but not her maiden name.
Plus numerous other tidbits of info, like his height, weight, eye color, hair color, type of build- medium.
I found out where he worked and what his job title was.
It is all confirming everything my family already knew but which we did not write down. Now I have it attached to my ancesters.
It is building a great picture of who they are.
Good luck with your search. We might be related yet. They were all such prolific people. Linda
P.S. I am Y DNA haplogroup I1. I am mt DNA haplogroup T2.
