Lewis (Louis) Christ (Crist, Krist) and Helena Snyder are a huge brick wall for me. Helena and the children emigrated on the ship Nederland to Castle Garden in New York. They were born in Germany, departed from Antwerp, Belgium, and arrived on 14 Oct 1882.
I have never found an immigration record for Louis. The 1900 Census says the family came in 1882, while the 1910 census says they came in 1886.
My questions are this:
When did Louis emigrate? What port did he come through? When and where was he naturalized?
When did Louis and Helena die, and where are they buried?
Why did the family live in Greensboro, Maryland?
Here is a timeline for them:
Louis, born Feb 1852 in Germany Helena, born Aug 1854 in Germany
married 1875 or 1877 (depending on which census you look at)
Frederick, born Apr 1878 in Germany Ludwig, born 1880 in Germany John Adam, born Jul 1882 in Germany
14 Oct 1882: Helena and the children arrive at Castle Garden
Effie, born Nov 1884 in Pennsylvania Edwin, born Oct 1887 in Montour County, Pennsylvania Michael, born Oct 1887 in Pennsylvania Josephine, born Oct 1890 in Pennsylvania
Ludwig dies, 1899
Family is in Greensboro, Caroline Maryland in 1900 Census.
Louis and Helena are in Milford Twp, Bucks County, PA in 1910 Census. It says that Louis was naturalized in PA. Frederick and Josephine live at home.
Effie and John live in Kent, Delaware Edwin lives in Richland, Bucks
Louis and Helena are in Haycock Twp, Bucks County, PA in 1920 Census. Frederick and Josephine live at home.
Effie and John live in Delaware Edwin lives in Franconia, Montgomery County, PA
In the 1930 Census, Frederick and Josephine live together in Springfield, Bucks County, PA. Louis and Helena are nowhere to be found.
Edwin lives in Richlandtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Presumably, both Louis and Helena die between 1920 and 1930
Josephine dies in 1930, of pregnancy complications in Springfield, Bucks County
Edwin dies in 1961 in Allentown, Lehigh County, PA
Effie is living in Harrington, VA, according to his obituary. She dies in 1974, back in Delaware.
