Andrew was born, 2 Jun 1883, near Husum in the old Danish province of the German empire.His father, Jacob, was a farm laborer, born near Tondurn, Province of Schleswig.He married Catherine Hansen, from Schleswig, and in 1900 they came to Hoboken, NJ, then to Manning, IA. Jacob Christensen was a resident of the town of Aspinwall until his death.Catherine moved to Blaine Co., MT, in 1915.Jacob and Catherine's children: Henry (Dexter, IA); Carl (Schleswig, Germany); Peteris (farmer near Zurich, MT); Andrew (Chinook, MT); Guste (Mrs. Strong, Denver, CO); Amelia (Mrs. Henry Benson, Clinton, IA).
After reaching the US, Andrew was a farmer near Manning, IA, at times going to school to learn English and finished his schooling at Aspinwall at age 20.In the spring of 1904, Andrew came to Montana and was a ranch hand at the Miller Brothers' ranch in the Bear Paw Mountains.On leaving the ranch, he worked as train brakeman for the Great Northern Railroad. In 1908, he located to Chinook, MT, where he was in the real estate business.In Nov 1913, he was elected county assessor and held that officefor six years.
On 15 May 1913, Great Falls, MT, Andrew married Miss Tillie Holm, born 31 Jan 1894, at Pearley, MN, daughter of Christ Holm.
