There are two Hezekiah Whitts. One was the friend of Thomas Mastin who signed for Thomas Christian pertaining to his adoption by Thomas Mastin and being an orphan.
The other was Hezekiah Whitt (Low Hawk Cornstalk) who was born of the Cornstalk clan and was also adopted by Mastin and given the name Hezekiah Whitt in honor of Mr. Mastin's close friend Hezekiah Whitt.
The Hezekiah Whitt who was the friend of Mr. Mastin married a Cornstalk woman named Rachel. She was a daughter of Chief Cornstalk and took the surname Skaggs in honor of William Skaggs who led an expedition with Hezekiah Whitt. So the younger Hezekiah was a nephew of Rachel and named after Rachel's husband.
The younger Hezekiah (Low Hawk) signed for Thomas Christian verifying he was a son left orphaned by the Cornstalk. Thomas in turn signed the same for Hezekiah. Elinipsiko and his father were not the only Cornstalks killed that day. There was another son killed and a daughter. They left four orphans behind who became children of Mr. Mastin and were given new names but carried the ways of their people throughout their lives an taught these ways to their children. From there most was lost in time as they lived in the white world but a few maintained a Shawano way of life.
You told me your Mastin Christian claimed he was a witch and that this was also stated by a Cline relative who wrote letters about Mastin and Michael Cline who hired him. Consider this; Mastin practiced the old ways of the Shawano, magic, causing him to be seen as a witch by his neighbors when he was really only practicing the ways of a medicine healer. In old ways the magic used was simple ritualistic behavior using different plants and prayers and what many saw as witch spells. Misconceptions of the whites lead them to think it was witchery when it really was not. Your Mastin Christian was nothing more than a Shaman.
Consider this too my friend. Your Mose would not have said he was Shawnee if he was not. There is a reason he would have said this even if you cannot find that reason in your search for truth. Why would he call himself Shawnee if he was not? Ponder it, think, think hard and carfully without bias. Truth looks you in the eye. Look it back strongly.
Nothing more can I add tonight. It is late and sleep calls me. I will go now and let you find your truth. Remember to listen to the wind.
Search for the Hawk, the Low Hawk, the Whitt who has the answer. Do not omit the children as they too can be a key.
Wado (neahw(thank you)as the Shawnee say) to you too my friend and cousin.
Wind blows, leaves rustle, truth follows, and then we know.
