Thank you for responding to my post. I have very little information on Rachel Allen. In a deed, executed in 1866,Sarah Chronister Dillard, her husband, E. L., and her brother George W., sold 120 acres of land of the original John Chronister headright. In the description there is an exception for 40 acres of Mrs. Allen's land.
I have copies of some of the John Chronister probate filed in Cooke Co., TX. In that file, there are two petitions from women claiming to be the wife of John Chronister; Rebecca Chronister and Rachel Chronister. These petitions have no date on the face of the documents.Based on the incomplete data that I have, these are different women, not one woman using two names. Both mention minor heirs and Rachel Chronister's mentions an "heir in expectation." John Chronister sold 160 acres of his claim of 320 acres in 1855. Final title was not granted to the property until 1859, after John's death. The first administrator of his estate named three living heirs, two of which were minors, Sarah and George W. This same George and Sarah sold 120 acres in 1866, leaving 40 acres of the original patent unaccounted for. Could this be Mrs. Allen's 40 acres? And what happened to his elder son, John, who I assume was the third heir mentioned in the petition to grant letters of administration in 1856? Or is it possible that John predeceased his father and the third heir is the eldest son, William, resident of Reynolds Co., MO?
Any help you can give in solving this mystery would be greatly appreciated.
