Read with much interest your informative posting concerning Mary Churchill and Roger Jones.
I am researching my Churchill ancestor, Churchill Blakey s/o Thomas and Margaret Jones/Catherine Susannah Churchill.
As may you know, the Christ Church parish records record the marriage of Thomas Blakey (various spellings) and Margaret Jones ( "of" Clamorganshire in Wales) 1686.Two entries, same date.
I have seen other postings that surmise Mary Churchill Jones was the sister to Margaret/Susannah (Churchill) Jones, the wife of Thomas Blakey.
I have eliminated the myth that my Churchill Blakey's mother was the daughter of Elizabeth Armistead Wormley Churchill on the basis of known dates.
What I am trying to work through is the possibility that
1, The Margaret Jones who married Thomas Blakey could have been a young widow of a near relative of Roger Jones', and a Churchill by birth, thus the naming of her first son, Churchill Blakey. (There is the problem of the Wales thing in this assumption, though.)
2. My ancestress was in fact as lore holds, Catherine Susannah, who married another Thomas Blakey in another parish that William Churchill may have been associated with prior to his membership with Christ Church in 1684.
I have found that both names, Catherine and Susannah are known in William's family, apparently he had sisters thus named.
My Churchill Blakey's also named two daughters, Catherine and Susannah. This first two children were named, Thomas and Margaret.
All of the above is fact as far as I am able to determine. While I would certainly like to retain William as my Immigrant ancestor, it is more important that I identify the correct Immigrant who was Margaret/Susannah's father.
I do appologize for this being so lenghty, but would deeply appreciate any light or direction you might be able to shed on my problem
Kindest regards, Jane
PS, I have seen it noted that William's two daughters by his first marriage are identified in his will, I have seen the entry cited concerning the children of Mary Jones, but cannot find information on the other daughter, this would go far in identifiying my ancestress. Would you have a copy of that particular will?Again, many thanks.
