Kristen. My guess is that the report of Josiah Churchill being buried in Newington Cemetery, stems from the exhuastive works of Mellanie-lynne Brown. She stated such in huge compilation of Churchill data, embracing 11 generations of the family - as well as data concerning all the allied families that married Churchills. Above works, some years ago, was available in its entirety on the internet, but no longer can be found. Many other of her other internet contributions can be found on ancestry.com, world connect. Her data is often copy-catted. A Massachussetts native, born in 1965, Mellanie was once an active contributor on the Churchill Family Forum.Several years ago she advised me that she had personally snapped photos of JOSIAH CHURCHILL'S GRAVE AND INSCRIPTION at Newington cemetery and asked me in a Forum exchange if I wanted copies.I tried to get back to her both on the Forum and by email. But, didn't get a response. In fact, it seems she never participated again on the internet - disappearing without comment.
However, later, I personally made several walks through hoth the Newington and Wethersfield cemeteries, looking for Churchill graves - finding none for Josiah or his son Joseph.I also studied all the names on published, indexed lists of names of persons buried in both cemeteries.Again no listings were found for Josiah or Joseph.
The popular belief of course, is that the great Ct. Rifver Flood of 1700 that swept through Wethersfield and its cemetery, washed away many graves, including not only the above Churchills but those of other relations such as Nathaniel Foote and many members of his family.
Anyway, I guess not only me, but many, many others would like to hear from Mellanie in order to clarify her posted data regarding Josiah and other Churchills.Hopefully, she is in good health and plans a return.
