From the Morrison Cove Herald - 16 February 1893 (-56 years old in 1893= b.1837)
Mr. Harman Claper, who lives about three miles south of Roaring Spring has a remarkable and valuable relic. It is an old wooden canteen made of staves, like a barrel and bound with iron hoops.it is about 7 inches in diameter and flat, the staves being only about 3 inches long. It has a leather strap for a handle. On the wood is carved the date "1775". Mr. Clapper who is 56 years old, says it was given to him by his grandmother many years ago. It was her father, Samuel Kinney, who carried the canteen in the Revolutionary War. Mr. Clapper has a good proof to this effect." Altoona Gazette Who is this Harman Clapper????
