I am new to Laurens County records on the Hall line, but not new to Halifax, Mecklenburg records.I descend from Jeremiah Hall of Madison County, Georgia. We know he is connected to the Anderson County, SC - Halifax County, VA branch, but don’t know exactly where.Hence I am left with the curse of trying to research the entire extended family.
With respect to the Clardy family, what I found that aroused my interest the most are the following deeds:
In Halifax County, Virginia,
On 27 May, 1762, SAMUEL HARRIS sold to JAMES VERNUM 220 acres on both sides of Banister River for 50£.Witnessed by WILLIAM DENDY, JAMES TRAVIS, JAMES LOGAN, WILLIAM HALL [SR] and RALPH FLOWERS.Recorded on 15 July, 1762.Halifax County, Virginia Deed Book 4, Page 29.Marian Dodson Chiarito, Halifax County Virginia Deed Books 2-6 1759-1767, Page 72.
On 10 October, 1780, JOHN CLARDY sold to WILLIAM PEARMAN 100 acres on Runaway Creek for 1500£.Witnessed by JOHN HALL, ROBERT HALL and DUDLEY GLASS.Recorded on 19 October, 1780.Description:adjacent READ, DEJARNAT, NATHAN HALL and FOWLES.SUSANNAH CLARDY relinquished dower.Halifax County, Virginia Deed Book 12, Page 61.
On 16 June, 1783, ROBERT HALL sold to WILLIAM HALL, JR. 100 acres on branches of Bye Creek for 10£.Witnessed by JAMES CHAPPELL, NATHANIEL HALL, JOHN HALL, JAMES SIMS and JOSEPH CLARDY.Recorded on 16 October, 1783.Description:adjacent FOWLES, THOMAS BOWMAN, WILLIAM POWEL, WILLIAM MCDANIEL and a new line by agreement between said ROBERT HALL and said WILLIAM HALL.Halifax County, Virginia Deed Book 12, Page 370.
In Laurens County, SC,
On 23 November, 1786, THOMAS CARGILL and his wife ELIZABETH CARGILL sold to WILLIAM HALL 180 acres on Little River for 75£.Witnessed by WILLIAM DENDY, JOHN CLARDY and JOHN POWELL.Recorded on 12 January, 1787.Description: Part of 200 acres granted to JOHN CARGILL, deceased, bounded by WILLIAM DENDY, JOHN CLARDY and JOHN POWELL.Laurens County, South Carolina Deed Book B, Page 65.See Sara M. Nash, Abstracts of Early Records of Laurens County, South Carolina 1785 -1820, page 14.
The disappearance of ROBERT, NATHANIEL, JOHN and WILLIAM HALL from Halifax County, Virginia (in early 1785, before the 1785 Tax Digest was taken) dovetails perfectly with their appearance in Laurens County, SC. on Norths Creek and Little River just southeast of Laurens, SC.
What I am trying to figure out is whether my conclusion that William Hall on Norths Creek is in conflict with your conclusion that your William came from Mecklenburg County, Virginia?
I have an abstract book of Mecklenburg County, Deed Book 6 that shows William Hall and Frances selling land on Bluestone Creek in December, 1784.That is the latest record I have for Mecklenburg deeds.I have not done any research on the Hall line in Mecklenburg County, so I don't know if there are any later deeds.
