This is the info I have on the Claspell family. Joseph Claspell b. Virginia according to son in 1880 census md. abt 1799 in WV or VA to Mary, who died abt 1850- Lafayette Co., Ind.
War of 1812 a pay voucher for Joseph Claspell in Zanesville, OH.He was a substitute for an Owens
1820 Mary Claspell was in Beaver Creek, Green Co., OH with children but not with husband Joseph. 1830 Mary was in Lafayette co., IN living with son Aaron
Joseph was living in 1841.
They (Joseph and Mary)had son Aaron, who loaned $10 to a Joseph Claspell in Lafayette, IN.
They also had son Manssas who died after 1880.He married in 1841 in Harrison Co., IN to Mary Ann Blake (dau. of Robert or William Blake). Manassas was likely born in Ohio.He married 1841 of Harrison Co., IN. Manassas was in Monroe Co., IN in 1880. Mary Ann Blake Claspell was also living in 1880. Manassas & Mary Ann had the following issue:

The above Zachariah Taylor Claspell born 1850 Harrison Co., IN. He married Nancy Aliminta Butt, dau of John Butt and Diadama Wells, both of Clay Co., IN. Zachariah & Nancy had son Lewis Taylor Claspell, and Zachariah died 1885 in Hamilton Co., TN.He was buried Red Bank, Hamilton, TN.
Son Lewis Taylor Claspell was a German Jew (as was his father Zachariah). Lewis was orphaned and was farmed out to work at the age of 8. He was not adopted, but worked hard for his upkeep. Lewis was the father of Reba Claspell b. 6 April 1927 at Soddy, Hamilton, TN.
